# SureDrop Groups

Groups within SureDrop are used to allow only authorised users access to specific information or files.

SureDrop stores all of your content as encrypted shards in the storage system onto which it is configured. 

The default display for groups is to show group names in the left-hand navigation panel. When you select a group name, the main display shows a list of the files and folders associated with that group. 

The image below shows an example of an initial GUI screen for a group named **Summer Trade Show**. The default is to show any messages associated with the group.

To access the Group Properties information, click the *Group* link at the top of the **Properties Sidebar**.

This will open the **Group Properties** panel.

Content is held in these named groups, which are also sometimes referred to as *security groups*. 

Each security group has an owner. The owner controls access to the content by adding other SureDrop users as members of a group.

Any member of your Team can be added to a group in SureDrop.

The functions associated with groups include:

* Creating and deleting groups
* Setting groups to read-only
* Adding members to a group
* Searching for documents in a group (click to go to document / show deleted checkbox)
* Notifying members of a group that files have been added or amended
* Disabling sharing of a group
